Introduction

District Development Profiles and Atlases of Balochistan is an initiative of P&D Department, Government of Balochistan to provide up to date and comprehensive information for planning and development. UNICEF in collaboration with AusAid has provided financial and technical assistance in this landmark assignment. These profiles uses latest information sources including MICS 2009-10 and data collected form district line departments and provides detailed information on district resources, demography, social and economic infrastructure and many other chapters. The profiles will also accompany Development Atlas for each district providing spatial information on development indicators, socio-economic disparities, and status of resources. More..

HHighlights of Profile

The Development District Profiles of Balochistan Province covers mainly the Historical Background, culture and traditions existing in the district and most importantly the productive sectors, Social Infrastructure, Economic and Communication Infrastructure of the district are presented in an intelligent way to inform the key stakeholders about the latest development potential in the district. The profiles also include new chapters on Women Development and Muncipal Services facilities, which were not included before in the district profiles development in 1998.

Balochistan MICS 2009-10

Second round of district-based Balochistan Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey (MICS) 2009-10 has been completed and results have been used in updating the district profiles.

Data Collection Completed

Despite flood emergency and prevailing security situation,the gigantic task of data Collection from the districts completed successfully by end-October, 2010. Data collection was launched in mid-August, 2010, after training of data collector.

Provincial Consultative Workshop

Provincial Consultative Workshop on Balochistan District Profiles updating was held on 29th July, 2010, at P&D Department, Quetta, to build concensus on contents, structure, format and sources of data.

Inception Workshop

Inception Workshop was conducted on 8th July, 2010 at Committee Room of P&D Department, Government of Balochistan, Quetta, to inform the Section Chief about the exercise and obtain their views on the scope of assignment.
